What is RPSC Assistant Professor Result 2026 and Why It Matters

The RPSC Assistant Professor Result 2026 is the official outcome released by the Rajasthan Public Service Commission (RPSC) after completing the full selection process — written examination followed by a personal interview — for recruitment to Assistant Professor posts under the College Education Department and Medical Education Department, Government of Rajasthan. The result is issued as a PDF document listing the roll numbers of selected candidates in the Main Merit List and Reserve List, along with their merit rank and category.
Unlike a single announcement, RPSC releases the result subject-wise and staggered across multiple dates throughout 2026, because each subject has its own exam timeline, moderation process, and interview schedule. For the Competitive Examination 2023 (College Education), the 1,913-vacancy cycle saw interviews conducted from 6–16 July 2026, with final results beginning to emerge from 22 July 2026 onwards. The 2024–25 Medical Education cycle (574 posts) follows a parallel track with separate subject PDFs.
Candidates whose roll numbers appear in the Main Merit List are provisionally selected for appointment subject to document verification. Those in the Reserve List are on standby — they are considered only if a Main List candidate withdraws, fails verification, or is found ineligible.

Main List vs Reserve List — What Is the Difference in RPSC Result 2026?
Understanding the difference between the Main List and Reserve List is critical for every RPSC candidate in 2026. The Main Merit List contains candidates who have been directly selected for appointment to the available vacancies based on their combined written exam and interview score. The Reserve List contains an equal number of candidates (typically 1× the vacancy count) who cleared the process but ranked just below the Main List threshold.
| Parameter | Main Merit List | Reserve List |
|---|---|---|
| Who’s included | Directly selected candidates | Backup / standby candidates |
| Count (example — Sanskrit 2026) | 76 candidates | 76 candidates |
| Appointment status | Invited for document verification & joining | Considered only if Main List vacancy arises |
| When Reserve List activates | — | Main List candidate withdraws, fails DV, or is ineligible |
| Cut off marks | Higher (above main cut off) | Lower (below main, above general elimination) |
| Validity period | Until appointment or new notification | Same — usually 1 year from result date |
| PDF availability | Separate PDF on rpsc.rajasthan.gov.in | Separate PDF on rpsc.rajasthan.gov.in |
For the General Surgery 2026 result, RPSC selected 36 candidates in the Main List and 18 in the Reserve List. For Sanskrit 2026, both lists had 76 candidates each — meaning the reserve pool was as large as the main selection. This ratio varies by subject.

RPSC Assistant Professor Selection Process 2026 — Complete Step-by-Step Guide
The selection process for RPSC Assistant Professor follows a 3-stage structure. Here is exactly how it works in 2026:
- Written Examination (200 Marks) — Objective-type MCQ exam comprising two papers: Paper I (Subject-specific knowledge) and Paper II (General Studies of Rajasthan). RPSC shortlists candidates up to 3 times the number of vacancies in each category for the interview stage. Negative marking applies — 1/3 mark deducted per wrong answer.
- Result Preamble & Cut Off Release — After the written exam, RPSC publishes a “Result Preamble and Cut Off Marks” PDF listing the shortlisted roll numbers and minimum qualifying marks by category for each subject. This is the first stage result.
- Interview / Personality Test (24 Marks) — Shortlisted candidates appear before an RPSC interview board. The interview tests subject knowledge, communication ability, and teaching aptitude. For 2023 cycle, interviews were held at the RPSC office in Ajmer from 6 July 2026 to 16 July 2026.
- Final Merit List Preparation — Combined scores (written + interview, total 224 marks) determine the final merit. RPSC prepares the Main Merit List and Reserve List based on this combined merit within each category.
- Main List & Reserve List Publication — The final Main Merit List and Reserve List PDFs are published on rpsc.rajasthan.gov.in. Roll numbers, merit ranks, and category details are included.
- Document Verification (DV) — Candidates in the Main List are called for document verification. Original certificates including degree marks sheets, NET certificate, domicile, caste certificate, and identity proof must be produced.
- Appointment & Probation — After successful DV, appointment orders are issued. New appointees undergo a 2-year probation period. Salary during probation is limited to basic pay only (no DA or HRA).

The RPSC Assistant Professor post competes strongly with MPPSC and UPPSC equivalents on salary, job security, and career growth. Rajasthan’s 1,913-vacancy cycle (2023) is one of the largest single state professor recruitment drives in India, making it a top-tier opportunity for candidates from humanities, science, and commerce backgrounds. The 7th Pay Commission basic of Rs.57,700 plus allowances makes it financially rewarding compared to most private college positions.
Advantages and Disadvantages of RPSC Assistant Professor Job 2026
Before accepting a government teaching position, every candidate should weigh the full picture honestly. Here is a balanced assessment:
✅ Advantages (Pros)
- High Job Security: Permanent government post under Rajasthan Education Service rules — virtually impossible to lose without serious misconduct.
- Competitive Salary + 7th Pay Commission Benefits: Basic pay of Rs.57,700 rising to Rs.1,00,000+ over a career with annual increments, plus HRA, DA, TA, and pension.
- Career Growth Pathway: Clear promotions to Associate Professor (Academic Level 11) and Professor (Level 13/14) without competitive exams — purely on merit and seniority.
- Work-Life Balance: Generous vacation schedule aligned with college academic calendar — up to 80+ holidays annually including summer break.
- Research Opportunities: Government professors can apply for UGC Minor Research Projects and Major Research Projects, enhancing career profile.
❌ Disadvantages (Cons)
- Probation Salary Limitation: During the mandatory 2-year probation, candidates receive only basic pay without DA, HRA, or other allowances — a significant income reduction from the total package.
- Transfer Policy: Government professors can be transferred anywhere in Rajasthan, which may cause disruption for candidates with strong family location preferences.
- Staggered Result Process: The subject-wise, multi-month result release process creates prolonged uncertainty — the 2023 cycle’s final lists came 3 years after the original notification.
